A CULTURAL SHOWCASE OF LIFE IN THE 1850s

Catch a glimpse of history in Historic Old Town Bluffton. Heyward House Museum hosts its Living History Program “Under the Ancient Oaks” 9AM November 16 through 1PM November 17, 2024, presented by the Southeast Coalition of Authentic Reenactors.

Journey back in time and witness Lowcountry life in the 1850s. Interact throughout the day with stations spotlighting traditional skills and activities of everyday life. Enjoy skills demonstrations of sewing, weaving, cooking and more, bringing the past into the present and giving each spectator a greater appreciation of daily life in the 1850s.

Music takes the center stage in the evening with authentic period melodies brought to life by talented musicians Messrs. Weems, Wheary and Pentecost.

The enchanted weekend will be brought to a close with a period, non-denominational Christian church service on Sunday, complete with a fire and brimstone preacher.
