New Riverside

20 years ago the area of New Riverside had a road with a few homes and not much else scattered among a whole lot of trees. Now the New Riverside area is home to several neighborhoods, schools, and the newest Bluffton park as well as New Riverside Village, a thriving commercial center that is just beginning to expand.

Located at the Highway 170 traffic circle, New Riverside provides easy access to Old Town Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Beaufort as well as Savannah, GA. Regardless of where you work or play, living in a New Riverside community is a viable option.

With the commercial development of New Riverside Village, shops and restaurants are now just minutes away. The residential growth required additional city services and New Riverside now has Fire Station #31, located next to the new Barn Park, providing emergency services.

Growth also requires schools. New Riverside is home to May River High School (the Sharks) which opened in 2016 and has approximately 1600 students. River Ridge Academy serves students (Pre-K through 8^th grade) from the New Riverside area. The new May River Elementary School (the Manatees,) scheduled to open in 2026, is located on New Riverside Road.

Each has its own personality with different amenities offered. In addition to the unique amenities offered by each community, the New Riverside area offers a few additional amenities well worth mentioning.

Walking trails. There are several miles of walking and biking trails located throughout the New Riverside area. The trails will bring you to the New River Linear Trail, once the route used by the Seaboard Air Line Railway. As you travel the 3.4 miles of flat, unpaved trail informative signs provide snippets of Bluffton’s rich history.

Riverside Barn Park. With over 37 acres, this new park is roughly the size of Forsythe Park in Savannah. The playground is completed and now open from sunrise to sunset. Picnic shelters, restrooms and public trails are all part of this parks appeal. The is an area for food trucks as well. With the completion of the renovation of the barn, slated for later this year, the new event venue will accommodate up to 175 people. The Barn Park is sure to be a favorite spot for community festivals and celebrations.
